In the Tacoma Narrows bridge, a wind force was applied from below, since the bridge decking could not counter that force; the bridgeencountered torque at its abutments. In this case, the forceat A is 1,500 N. How much force would you need to apply at Bto counter the torque on the right hand pier?

I am stuck and don't know where to start! Please help!

Explanation / Answer

From principle of moments when the system is in equilibrium the net torque qctingon the system is zero        1500(50m) = F(90m)       therefore          F = 7500 /90 = 83.33N
