Question
I was confused on my lab dealing with Coulomb's law andelectrostactics when it asks: Does the tape pick up negative charge (electrons) or positivecharge (protons)? Is it possible to tell, in theory? Is there anypractical way to find out? I have attached the purpose and theory behind the labbut I am still left very confused Please Help LAB outline: http://spiff.rit.edu/classes/phys273/manual/tape/tape.html I was confused on my lab dealing with Coulomb's law andelectrostactics when it asks: Does the tape pick up negative charge (electrons) or positivecharge (protons)? One can not possibly decide whether an object willget negative charge or positive charge without considering the bodywith which it is rubbed with.
It means it depends on the relative tendency ofthe two objects to accept electrons (or receive).
In this case, the tape gets negative charge ,asfar as i can tell.
