Question

I look at this problem, and it seems very easy at first but I'vetried a few approaches and I'm still stuck, help would be greatlyappreciated.
A student wants to determine the distance from the lakeshoreto a small island. He first draws a 50 meter line parallel to theshore. Then, he goes to the ends of the line and measures theandles of the lines of sight from the island relative to the linehe has drawn. The angles are 30 degrees and 40 degrees. How far isthe island from the shore.

Explanation / Answer

However, there's 2 missing variables and 2 angles.
What you do here is use sin 30 = x/ 50m, once you get that, you are left with one missing variable and solve for that to getthe distance from the island to shore, just draw the picture andyou will get it.
Remember, 50 meter line parallel to the shore is the x axisline
