Are you sure the point charges of opposite sign? To my knowledgethis question has no meaningful solution unless the two pointcharges are the same sign. If you stick an electron in thisconfiguration, it will be repelled by the negative point charge andattracted by the positive one, so its equilibrium position would beadjacent to the positive charge.
