Question
We performed an experiment to find bacteriophage growth/ burst size. Nobody got good results that make sense, and our teacher asked us this. "The experiment we performed to determine the average number of mature virions released did not work. We tried to syringe filter the virus before we infected the bacteria and then plated. Think about how we performed this experiment and offer an explanation as to why the experiment may not have worked."
I don't understand what went wrong. I'm sure it has something to do with syringe filtering the virus because she mentioned it in the question? Should we not have syringe filtered the virus for some reason? Please help me understand!
Unforturnetly, I don't know the sizes of the filter pores.
Explanation / Answer
- the filtration which is done may not be appropriate according to the size of the virion.
- Plating may be not done accurately.
