is important to carry out a complete nutritional assessment on our patient because nutrition plays
an important role in our health and overall well-being. A nutritional assessment consists of
objective and subjective data that are needed gain information about an individual’s nutrient
intake. The information helps in the care of the individual, because it guides us to know if the
individual is getting less or more than body requirement or if their intake is the required amount
needed for the body. The nutritional status is therefore used for the planning and intervention used for our patient care. It is also helps to guide us through the right patient teaching to they need to maintain the right intake. According to Jarvis, “nutritional assessment is done to identify individual nutritional requirements, provide information for a nutrition plan of care, and also to establish baseline data for evaluating the efficacy of nutritional care”, (Jarvis, 2014, p. 202).
