When you are drawing the ray diagram, the image locate at theintersection of those rays. There are infinite light rays that areused to form the image, using the index card covered left half ofthe lens only blocks some of the light ray that is used to formthat image. The image is still forming by the light rays that arenot blocked by the card. But since some of the light rays areblocked, the image becomes dimmer.
