Question

When the right side of the loop is inside themagnetic field region but the left side has not yet entered themagnetic field region, what is the direction of the induced currentin the loop, and what is the direction of the magnetic field at thecenter of the loop produced by this current?
counterclockwise, into the plane of thefigure clockwise, into the plane of the figure zero, into the plane of the figure zero, out of the plane of the figure counterclockwise, out of the plane of thefigure clockwise, zero clockwise, out of the plane of the figure zero, zero counterclockwise, zero

Explanation / Answer

According to Lenz's law, the direction ofinduced current is such that it will oppose the change in magneticflux through the loop.    When loop is inserted in the field, themagnetic flux linked to it will increase in the direction ofmagnetic field, i.e. directed inwards and normal to plane ofscreen. To oppose it, the direction of magnetic field at the centreof loop must be directed outwards.    Further the outwards field means that theloop behaves as north pole of magnet ( as seen from above) whichrequires that the induced current be counter clockwise.    counterclockwise, out of the plane ofthe figure
