Question
_______m Thanks for your help! Point A is the midpoint of one of the sides of a square. On theside opposite this spot, two in-phase loudspeakers are located atadjacent corners, as in the figure below. Standing at point A youhear a loud sound because of constructive interference between theidentical sound waves coming from the speakers. As you walk alongthe side of the square toward either empty corner, the loudnessdiminishes gradually to nothing and then increases again until youhear a maximally loud sound at the corner. If the length of eachside of the square is 2.38 m, find thewavelength of the sound waves. lambda =Explanation / Answer
Length of each side of the square a = 2.38 m
At point A the path difference = 0
So, we hear loud sound
At the corner also we hear loud sound.
So, the path difference at the corner is y = diagonal -side length
= 2* a - a
= 0.9858 m
we know if the path difference y = then we hear 1 stmaximum sound
So, wavelength fo the sound = y = 0.9858 m
