Question
If you are a male, you would be able to obtain your ancestry genetic information from your chromosome and your DNA1)This is a three part question which relates to the following experiment that deals with synthetic lethals: Five mutated yeast strains are created that each contain a single mutation in either genes A, B, C, D and E. All of these individual mutant strains result in viable phenotypes. However, when strain A is mated with strains B, C, D and E, only strains (A+B) and (A+E) result in non viable (lethal) phenotypes. Strains (A+C) and (A+D) result in viable (living) phenotypes. Answer the following three questions.
2) If you are a male, you would be able to obtain your ancestry genetic information from your (fill in blanks, which chromosome) chromosome and your (fill in the blank) DNA

However, when strain A is mated with strains B, C, D and E, only strains (A + B) and (A + E) result is non-viable (lethal) phenotypes. Strains (A + C) and (A + D) result in viable (living) phenotypes. Answer the following three questions. What is the most likely functional relationship between genes A and E? What is the most likely functional relationship between genes B and D? What is the most likely functional relationship between genes C and D?Explanation / Answer
If all genes (A,B,C,D,E) are mutated then A+B and A+E combination results into lethal phenotype, which clearly indicates that loss of function is not compensated by these gene combination. The fuction of these genes as combination couldnot be reversed back to normal condition.
In second case A+C and A+D combination finally showed viable phenotype, which means the mutation is compensated and function is compensated /regained by this combination.
A) A and E - results into loss of function of that particular survival pathway
B) B and D - when both gene are combined with A results into lethal and viable phenotypes respectively, thus these genes are from different function groups. Gene B is crucial for survival or combination when combinated with A didnot reversed back to normal phenotype
However, D and A combination can compensate the functional role in survival pathway thus resulted into normal phenotype
C) Similarly to D, C when combined with A resulted into normal phenotype. So, C and D might have simialr functional contribution in survival and compensate the role of A.
2) If you are a male, you would be able to obtain your ancestry genetic information from your Y chromosome and your some part of X chromosomal DNA
However most of the gene regulating male characterstics are on X chromosome, still presence of Y chormosome is imported to regulate the male genes.
