Hi, the only force (ignoring resistance from the air) is the friction between puck and ice. The acceleration is not dependent on the initial velocity of the puck. Also, the friction force is negative because it acts against the direction of motion.Hence F = ma = -µk * m * g
=> a = -µk * m * g / m
=> a = -µk * g
(b) From v^2 - u^2 = 2 * a * s, we have
0 - vo^2 = 2 * (-µk * g) * s (since final velocity is zero) => s = vo^2 / (2 * µk * g)
