In 3 dimensions each classical identical particle associated with 6 degrees of freedom , 3 for position (x,y andz) and 3 for momentum (px, py, pz) . As each particle has 6 degrees of freedom , hence 1023 particles will have 1023*6=6138 degrees of freedom
