Question

Bill has the AB blood type and his wife has the O blood type. In an attempt to break a world record they have 200 children. of those children 93 have the O blood type, 60 have the A blood type, and 47 have the B blood type. Determine the genotype that would allow Bill and his wife to have these children. Once you have determined the appropriate genotypes, use Chi squared analysis to determine if the data that you have fits your proposed hypothesis.

I have a really hard time figuring out how to set up monohybrids and dihybrids. Also, once I get to the Chi Analysis I cannot figure out the ratio. If I know the ratio I am able to do the rest of the math I just don't seem to understand how to do the ratio. Help please!

Explanation / Answer

Bill's nameless wife has been quite busy. In addition to birthing "their" 200 children she has been spending quality type with at least one man who does not have the blood type AB. A mating between an AB father (such as Bill) and an OO mother (his nameless wife) will produce children who have blood type A or B. None of the children will be blood type O or AB. A Chi square would result in a situation in which we divide by zero. Which of course is not allowed per the mathematicians.
