Question

(a) Find the magnitude of the current in each resistor.
I(2.60 ohms): _____A
I(4.35 ohms): _____A
I(5.60 ohms): _____A

(b) Find the magnitude of the potential difference between points a and b.

_____V

(c) Find the power supplied by each battery.
left battery: _____W

right battery: _____W

In the circuit in the figure below, the batteries have negligible internal resistance. (Take R1 = 2.60 Omega, R2 = 4.35 Omega, and R3 = 5.60 Omega.) Explanation / Answer

Given

   R1  =   2.6

   R2  =  4.35

   R3   =  5.6

      V1  =   V2  =   12 V

       V1   = i 2  R2 + i 1 R1   + V 2

        V1  =  i2  R2  + i3  R3

          i1 R1  - i3 R3  + V2   = 0

substitue  the values of  Resistances and voltages

         i2  4.35   +  2.6 i3   = 0

         4.35 i2   + 5.6 i3   = 12 V

          2.6 i1  -  5.6 i3  =  - 12V

    solving  these equations

       i1  =    1.039A

          i2  = 0.621

          i3  =  1.66 A
