Question
Question 1A vault is opened by applying a force of 300 N perpendicular to the plane of the door, 0.80m from the hinges. Find the torque due to this force about an axis through the hinges.
Question 2
A 4.0kg mass is placed at (3.0, 4.0) m, and a 6kg mass is placed at (3.0, -4.0) m. What is the moment of inertia of this system of masses about the x-axis?
Question 3
A ventilation fan with a moment of inertia of 0.034kg*m^2 has a net torque of 0.11 N*m applied to it. What angular acceleration does it experience?

Explanation / Answer
i tried explaining it with the best of my avality if you need more help just ask 1) Torque = Force x Lever Arm Torque = 300N x 0.80 m Torque = 240 N*m ANS. (The sign depends on whether clockwise or counterclockwise rotation is considered positive or negative). 2) Since the system has two masses only then we can write the moment of intertia as: I = m1(r1)^2 + m2(r2)^2 I = moment of inertia m1 = 4.0 kg r1 = 3.0 m m2 = 6.0 kg r2 = 3.0 m Hence,I=(4.0 kg)(3.0m)^2+(6.0 kg)(3.0m)^2 I = 90 kg.m^2 ANS. 3) Torque = Moment of Inertia x Angular Acceleration T = I x A A = T/I = 0.11N*m/0.034kg*m^2 A = 3.2 rad/sec ANS
