Explanation / Answer

Around the early 1960’s a steel bridge was being constructed in Vancouver to connect it with North Vancouver. It was a steel bridge that used deep steel girders. It collapsed during the summer with loss of life of many iron steel workers.

It was a progressive collapse with one span falling followed by the next. It was not unlike the Twin Towers failure mechanism.

It was not until I was in engineering that I learned of the reason for this failure. It collapsed during construction due to miscalculation of weight bearing capacity of a temporary arm.

there were 19 deaths and 79 severly injured. along with that there were 8 additional deaths during the construction process of this bridge beside the collapse of bridge.

the exact date of mishappening was 17th of june 1958.
