Explanation / Answer

According to the DDC published publication Design and Construction Excellence 2.0, the four lenses are – equity, sustainability, resiliency and healthy living. Each of the lenses includes five guiding principles intended for designers and architects who design capital projects.
The idea of Architecture for All will shape the future construction project with the help of these four lenses. The existing/ongoing projects like The Spring Street Salt Shed at the West Side Highway in Manhattan exemplify how excellent design can also be sustainable, resilient and endorse positively to healthy and equitable societies, said an architect from DDC. An upcoming firehouse for Rescue Company 2 in Brooklyn is also designed to maximize energy efficiency, moderate carbon emissions, preserve water, and contribute to a sustainable urban environment through integrating ecologically responsible practices. A geothermal system and a solar water heating system will save two-third of the energy required to heat and cool the building. Future projects like 40th Precinct in the Bronx, Far Rockaway Library in Queens etc. will be a based on these guiding lenses as per DDC.
Leeds- U.S. Green Building council focuses on materials, energy performance, water efficiency and smart grid. NYC approaches these points in different way; they won’t just opt for Leeds certification standards by following them. The four lenses viewpoint of future construction guidelines are working well with NYC’s approach. Where Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure have Envision guidelines for sustainable infrastructure projects. Envision offers an all-inclusive agenda for evaluating and rating the communal, environmentally friendly, and economic benefits of infrastructure projects. The bottom-line, every sustainable designing authority is approaching the green and ecofriendly designing by providing different guidelines but they all agree on the same fundamental idea of sustainability. NYC is good with the DDC’s sustainability 2.0 approach. They really don’t just directly follow other rating agencies.
