a. Speed: A software manufacturer needs to start building a plant as soon as possible. They also want to be heavily involved in every design decision.  

b. Risk reduction: A group of doctors wants to build a small medical office building in east Boulder. They have zero experience managing a project and want to shed as much risk as possible. They are not particularly concerned with the details of the design.

c. Renovation with few trades: IBM is doing a renovation to their plant in Colorado. The work general involves only a few trades (mechanical and electrical). IBM has an in-house staff devoted to project management.
