Question

S1 Problem 5 Before 1950, which mode of transportation was mainly used for long trips within the United States? Problem 6 Which mode of transportation uses classification yards? Problem 7 If a ship's capacity is 14,500 TEU's, how many 40 foot containers will it hold? Problem 8 What are the implications of wake vortices on air traffic at airports? Problem 9 You are tasked with choosing the mode of transportation for 20 tons of freight going from Chicago to Detroit (281 miles), which would you choose and why? Problem 10 What happens to empty containers after the goods have been delivered?

Explanation / Answer

Problem-5 ]

Before 1950's in perioe 1800-1900 US peoples used a natural waterways for long trips.

after 1900 up to 1950's Electrical trolley lines also used to travel farthest and fastest than a waterways.

it was also cheaper.

Problem-6]

Rail ways is a mode of transportation which uses classfication yards.

In ralways transportation system, rail terminals having a unique features like as shunting that require seprate yard fafacilities. train bogies are has to be assembled or broken in classfication yards.

Problem -7]

we know that the 40 foot containers consider as the 2-TEU.

so our ship having a 14500 TEU capacity.

now calculate the No container = Ship capacity / One Container capacity

Nos = 14500 TEU / 2 TEU

= 7250 Nos of container ship will hold.

Peoblem -8 ]

Implications of Wake vortices at airport traffic as follows,

1- MIniumum seperation distance shall be maintianed in between the planes.

2- A small airplane shall be kept away at least 6 mile from large airplane.

3- A two large airplanes shall maintian a 4 miles speration distnace in between them while landing.

Problem 9 ]

Road transportation mode shall be prefferable.

20 Ton can be trasport by a Big container vehicle. so it wll easiest and cheaper mode of tranport to travel from Chicago to Detroit.

Problem -10]

When containers get empty after goods delivery cleaning and repairing works of the container have een performed.

if that is on a ocean terminal then it is repositioned on the other ship to use.
