11. Balloon and platform framing

Balloon framing is an earlier method of wood construction. Studs run continuously from top to bottom of the building and light wood frames are constructed around these studs. Roofs are traditional truss type structures consisting of rafters and ceiling joists.

In platform framing, the structure is constructed fllor-wise. Initially, a structure is constructed and supported at foundation level. The next level is constructed with the constructed one as the base and so on. Finally, roof is constucted with rafters and roof joists.
