Question

A 3-ft diameter CSTR is equipped with a 1-ft diameter flat-blade turbine. At 300 rpm the reactor yields the desired result. A batch reaction is carried out in the reactor and the reaction time is the most critical factor for the operation. The same reaction is to be carried out in a 8-ft diameter reactor with a 3-ft diameter turbine impeller. What rotational speed will give the same blending time? What will be ratio of power requirement per unit volume for the two reactors? For this case, the D a/Di ratio is not the same. So you cannot use nt_T = constant.

Explanation / Answer

a)firstly wrad=v/r

v=300*60.96

= 18288

wrad =v/r

= 18288/152.4

=120.

b) power ratio =(w1rad*R1)/(w2rad*R2),

=1
