Question

An exercise room has six weight-lifting machines that have no motors and four treadmills each equipped with 5.0-hp (shaft output) motor. The motors operate at an average load factor of 0.76. at which their efficiency id 0.79. During peak evening hours, all 10 pieces of exercising equipment are used continuously, and there are also five people doing light exercises while waiting in line for a piece of the equipment. Assuming the average rate of heat dissipation from people in an exercise room is 435 W. Determine the rate of heat gain of the exercise room from people and the equipment at peak load conditions.

-----W

Explanation / Answer

>> For each Motor,

>> Heat released = 5*745.8*0.76*0.79 = 2238.89 W   [ because 1 hp = 745.8 W ]

> As, total there are 10 equipments:- 6 - Weight Lifting and 4 - Treadmills

>> Now, only treadmills have mototrs

=> Total heat released by motor = 4*2238.89 = 8.956 KW

>> Now, as all equipments are continuously using and other 5 people are waiting for it

So, total no. of persons are:- 15

As, each person dissipitate heat = 435 W

=> Total Heat dissipitate by Persons = 15*435 = 6.525 KW

=> Total Heat Gain Rate = 8.956 + 6.525 = 15.481 KW       .......ANSWER.......
