A survey of 237 students in our class was conducted to determine which types of sporting events they have attended at TAMU. Let F be the set of students who have attended a football game. Let B be the set of students who have attended a basketball game. Let S be the set of students who have attended a soccer game.Use the survey results below to create a Venn diagram and find the number of people in each section.
• 210 students have attended a football game.
• 129 students have attended a basketball game.
• 96 students have attended exactly two types of sporting events.
• 56 students have attended a football game and a soccer game.
• 43 students have attended a basketball game and a soccer game.
• 20 students haven’t attended any of the sporting events.
• 43 students have attended all three types of sporting events.
How many students have attended a football game or a basketball game, but not a soccer game?
Explanation / Answer
As the number of people attending the Soccer and Basketball is the same as those who attended all the games,
So those who attended only S and B (but not F ) =0
Number of people who attended exactly two games =96. So THose who attended both B and F but not S is 83.
The rest is self explanator.y.
The number who attended Football or Basketball but not soccer = (71+83+3) =157
