Question

Was having some trouble on how to get the question, I following thecramster example but i get answers which are way off.
Question:
A concave mirror has a focal length of 32.5 cm. The distancebetween an object and its image is 46.3 cm. Find (a) the object and(b) the image distance assuming that the object lies beyond thecenter of curvature.
Thisis question 28 from chapter 25 of the Cutnell & JohnsonPhysics 7th Edition
Thank you so much for just even taking a look atit!

Explanation / Answer

   from the given
   do - di = 46.3 cm
the thin lens equation is given by
   (1 / do) + (1 / di) = (1 /f)
   (1 / do) + 1 / (do - 46.3 cm) =(1 / 32.5 cm)
on solving for the quadratic form we get
   do2 - ...... do+ ....... = 0
we get two values for dowith + and -
(a)
when the object lies beyond the center of curvature wechoose do +
(b)
when the object lies within the focal point we choosedo -
