Question

In an industrial cooling process, water is circulated througha system. If the water is pumped with a speed of 0.45 m/sunder a pressure of 400 torr from the first floor through a 6.0 cmdiameter pipe, what will be the pressure on the next floor 4.0 mabove in a pipe with a diameter of 2.0 cm? In an industrial cooling process, water is circulated througha system. If the water is pumped with a speed of 0.45 m/sunder a pressure of 400 torr from the first floor through a 6.0 cmdiameter pipe, what will be the pressure on the next floor 4.0 mabove in a pipe with a diameter of 2.0 cm?

Explanation / Answer

   A1 V1 =A2V2
OR d12 V1 =d22 V2
     V2 =  d12 V1  / d22       = (36) (0.45m/s) / (4)
   =4.05m/s
  From bernoullis theorem
   P1+ g h1 + (1/2) V12 = P2 + g h2+ (1/2) V22
   Here P1 = 400 torr (133.3224 Pa / torr) = 5.3329x104 Pa
   h1 = 0 m
     h2 = 4 m
      = 1000 kg / m^3
