Assuming we cannot detect the presence of gremlins, NO thereis no test for the first situation. In essence there is no way totest for the presence of gremlins if we have no way to detectgremlins. And simply stating "gremlins are pushing on the objectand therefore gremlins exist" does not count. . To test this statementyou would have to apply the laws of physics, notable the law ofconservation of energy and the second law of thermodynamics. Youwould have to determine: .    1. the energy of combustion of one gallonof gas .    2. the maximum possible useful energy thatcould be converted from that energy of combustion. .    3. the energy the car needs to travel that500 miles to overcome air resistance . If you could show that the car needs more energy than the gascan provide, you could conclude that the statement is false, sincesuch a device violates the laws of physics. If such a device doesnot violate the laws, then in theory it could be invented.
