There are many water bodies such as lakes, canals, reservoirs and even oceans from where marine sediments are dredged out using dredgers. These dredged marine sediments(DMS) are nothing more than a waste material with high compressibility, high void ratio, and low strength. Therefore it has to be treated with the polymers or admixtures. Once treated and stabilized, it can be used as a back-fill material, or to form the trenches and dikes.
The best practice is to use OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and Bentonite. Various test results have shown that the compressibility of the clay gets reduced while the shear strength increases with the addition of the Bentonite and OPC.
