Question

Q1) 100 A Bolling Point.. B 50 A 75 - Ice Point 25 B °B) and boiling in A and B. The ice points (0°A,-25 points (100 °A, T, 'B) of water are indicated. If the temperature of a substance reads 50 A on B on the B scale, emperature ofa substance reads 50% on the A scale and 75 a) b) Find the value of the boiling point of water Ts on the B scale Since scale A is the Centigrade scale, what is the temperature of 45 °B? Kelvin temperature of a substance which has a 02) () Define the following thermodynamic processes for Ideal Gases.For each process state is constant (where applicable) and what parameter changes (AU, ?? AV, AT, AW, AQ ) are equal to zero. (a) Isothermal Process (b) Isobaric Processes (c) Isochoric Process (d) Adiabatic Process (ii) One mole of an ideal monoatomic gas is at a temperature of 27°C. (a) What is the internal energy of the gas? (b) What is the volume of the gas if the pressure is 2.0 x 105 N/m2

Explanation / Answer

(1)
(a) We know that the scale are calibrated at the 50oA and 75oB .
hence we know that
[t- tice / tboiling - tice]A = [t- tice / tboiling - tice]B
Now putting all the values
[(50- 0) / (100-0)]A = [{75-(-25)}/ {TB - (-25)}]B
[50 / 100)]A = [{75+25)}/ {TB +25)}]B
(1/2) = 100/(TB+25)
TB + 25 = 200
TB = 200-25 = 175oB
(b) Now we will calculat the temperature of the scale A at the correspnding of 45oB
[tA- tice / tboiling - tice]A = [45- tice / tboiling - tice]B
[(tA- 0) / (100-0)]A = [45- (-25)/(175 - (-25))]B
tA/100 = 70/200
tA = 35oC
Now we know that to convert celsius into Kelvin we have to add 273
tA = 35+273 = 308 K
Hence the temperature will be 308 Kelvin
