Question
A kangaroo jumps to a vertical height of 2.9 m. How longwas it in the air before returning to Earth? First I used thisequation y=v0t1 +1/2 (9.80 m/s2)t2 v0=0 and y=2.9m and I plugged this into theequation because I am looking for the time it took thekangaroo to return to earth in seconds. v0=0 and y=2.9m and I plugged this into theequation because I am looking for the time it took thekangaroo to return to earth in seconds. 2.9m=1/2 (9.80m/s2)t2 .77 seconds = t I thought that this answer was correct however it iswrong. If there is anyone who can help me solve this problem Iwould be very grateful.Explanation / Answer
Maximum height jumped by kangaroo, hm =2.9m We have from the equation, v2-u2 =2ghm At maximum height, v= 0 Then, from the above equation, hm= u2/2g Now,2.9 = u2/2g , u= 2ghm = 2x9.8x2.9 = 7.53m/s Time that which kangaroo is in air before returning to earth= Timeof flight = t Now, t= 2u/g =2x7.53/9.8=1.53s Hope this may help you
