Question

Hi everyone,

I am getting confused by this physics "theory" question:
Annie is on Planet A, where the ground potential is 1,000,000 V.Annie touches an object insulated from ground at a potential of1,000,001 V. Bob is on Planet B, where the ground potential is 0 V.Bob touches an object insulated from ground at a potential of 200V. Who, if anyone, experiences a shock?

I think they both get a shock, but Bob's is greater, because thedifference is greater... but I am not sure. Could someone pleaseexplain this to me? Thanks!

-A

Explanation / Answer

Bob will experience a shock.    This is because Annie is subjected topotential difference of only 1 volt which is not enough to makeenough currnt flow through her body. However a potential differenceof 200 V is high enough to cause a shocking ( even fatal) currentto flow.
