Question

Can someone please answer this problem and show me the work soI can see how it is done.
Two adjacent ntural frequencies of an organ pipe are found tobe 550Hz and 650Hz. Calculate the fundamental frequency and lengthof this pipe. (use v = 340 m/s.) Determine whether the pipe is openone both ends or open on only one end.

Explanation / Answer

If the pipe is open, the fundamental freq is the differencebetween adjacent harmonics AND the harmonics are integer multiplesof the fundamental. . In this case...    difference = 650- 550 = 100       but    650 and 550   are not integermultiples of 100. . This tells us the pipe must be   OPEN ON ONLY ONE END. . For a pipe open at one end, the fundamental frequency is halfthe difference of adjacent harmonics, so it must be .     fundamental frequency = (1/2) *100 =    50 Hz
