Question
The dielectric in acapacitor is changed to a material with adielectric constant that is larger by a factor of fgive. Ifthe charge on the capacitor is held fixed, by what factor does theenergy stored in the capacitor change? Show thisalgebraically. Explain why the energy is diferent in the twocases. I have trouble with theoretical problems. If you guyscould help out that would be great. Thanks. we know that capacitance C=k0A/d where C=capacitance k=dielectric constance A=area of plate d=separation between the plate As per given data capacitance of 1st materail is letC1=k0A/d capacitance of 2nd materail is letC2=5k0A/d so C1/C2=1/5 again energy stored in a capacitor isUE=Q2/2C as charge Q is fixed in both of the material Energy stored In both case isUE1/UE2=C2/C1=5 so the stored energy of first material is 5 times of 2ndmaterial I think iit will help youRelated Questions
