Question
Cancer cells are more vulnerable to x and gamma radiation than arehealthy cells. In the past, the standard source for radiationtherapy was radioactive 60Co which decays with ahalfl-ife of 5.27y, into an excited nuclear state of60Ni. That nickel isotope then immediately emits twogamma-ray photon, each with energy of 1.2 MeV. How many radioactive60Co nuckei are present in a 6000 Ci source?I actually understand how to do it, but I don't understand why Ihave to convert to seconds (the solution here uses the SI unitS-1/Ci instead of Bq). Because of this, I keep gettingthe wrong answer.
