Question
i did an experiment where i placed a steel disk on a rotatingbase and suspended a mass at the end of a string. I released theweight from rest and timed the vertical drop to the floor. This was a moment of inertia lab and i want someone todescribe the relationship between the rotational motion and linearmotion. thanks. i did an experiment where i placed a steel disk on a rotatingbase and suspended a mass at the end of a string. I released theweight from rest and timed the vertical drop to the floor. This was a moment of inertia lab and i want someone todescribe the relationship between the rotational motion and linearmotion. thanks.Explanation / Answer
Gravity will pull down on the weight with a force equal to9.8*mass this force will produce a torque about the rotating steel disk Torque = I, where I is the moment of inertia of a disk and is the angular acceleration. this acceleration will cause the platform to rotate ( i can'tremember the exact formula) and the mass to lower at a rate is R. let me know if any of this is unclear
