Question
I want to build a circular runway for light aircraft, diameter2,000 meters, for landing speeds about 30 m/s. Therunway must be "banked" to align the vertical acceleration forcesperpendicular to the horizontal axis of the aircraft, i.e., thelandings must "feel" like landing on a conventional runway.I think the degrees of bank I'm looking for are the same #that a motorcycle would be inclined to the inside if it weredriving around a flat circular highway 2,000 meters in diameter, but I don't know how to figure that out (either).
How many degrees of "bank" must I build into this circularrunway?
Pls, I don't want hints. I need the answer and the formulayou used to find it, so I can adjust the dimensions ifnecessary. Thank you for your time and patience....
Explanation / Answer
We know that tan = (v^2/r * g) is the angle through which the runway is banked,v isthe speed of aircraft and g is the acceleration due togravity or = tan-1(v^2/r * g) v = 30 m/s,r = (d/2) = (2000/2) m = 1000 m and g = 9.8m/s^2Related Questions
