Question
You don't need to necessarily solve parts a andb. I need help with the following essay question: In part b, you'reasked to find the maximum speed the coaster can go over the hilland not fly off the track. To find this maximum speed, you'll needto set the normal force equal to zero. Your job in this essay is toexplain why that little trick makes physical sense. If we'reconcerned with finding this maximum possible over-the-hill speed, why should that correspond to a normal force going to zero as onegoes over the hill?
Explanation / Answer
Can someone explain to me why the normal force in part b is equalto 0? Why is there no normal force? Is this because the centripetalacceleration and acceleration due to gravity cancel each other out? Please explain.
