1b) Which of the following statements about phosphorylation of enzymes is FALSE?

A.) Phosphorylation is a reversible covalent modification.

B.) The phosphorylation of an enzyme results in a change in its conformation, thereby increasing its activity.

C.) The phosphorylation of enzymes is catalyzed by other enzymes called kinases.

Explanation / Answer

1a. Ans:B

At high substrate concentration, the rate of reaction reaches plateau as the enzymes active sites becomes saturated with substrate and no free enzyme for binding the substrate.

1b. Ans: B

The phosphorylation of an enzyme results in a change in its conformation, but after phosphorylation enzyme can be activated or deactivated. Its not a thumb rule that after phosphorylation enzyme activity is always increased.
