Identifying predictors of success in college. Researchers gather data from 400 college students to see whether motivation to succeed, SAT scores, and quality of life predict GPA.

For the 2 examples you chose, identify which inferential statistic you should use to analyze the data from the study.

Explanation / Answer

Since, inferential statistics makes inferences about populations using data drawn from the population. Instead of using the entire population to gather the data, the statistician will collect a sample or samples from the millions of residents and make inferences about the entire population using the sample. We should use: Correlation to study the relationship between the two variable in these case and regression analysis; how change in one variable will be related to change in other variable (Udacity). Hence a Regression and correlation analysis: involving identifying the relationship between a dependent variable and one or more independent variables is applicable in this situation. A model of the relationship should be hypothesized, and estimates of the parameter values used to develop an estimated regression equation, in these two situations. As in both these cases we are going to interpret the data to study the relationship between the variables
