1.the torque acting on the beam and the wire is zero thereforewe get T * h + w * L = 0 or T * h = -w * L or h = -(w * L/T) w = 500 N,L = 4 m and T = 100 N or h = -(500 * 4/100) = -20 m or h = 20 m 2.when the wire is fastened at a lower point we have h1 = (20 - 0.5) m = 19.5 m let the new tension in the wire be T1 therefore weget T1 * h1 = -w * L or T1 = -(w * L/h1) or T1 = -(500 * 4/19.5) = -102.5 N or T1 = 102.5 N
