Question

when we move a conductor in the magnetic field then current isinduced the explaination usually given is the mechnical enegy (givenby hand) drive electrons from one point to another but when we move magnet around a conductor then currentis produced what is the cause of this current while the conductoris stationary? i know change of flux is cause but in first case when we moveconductor then we say this energy is given by hand but in secondcase conductor is stationary? when we move a conductor in the magnetic field then current isinduced the explaination usually given is the mechnical enegy (givenby hand) drive electrons from one point to another but when we move magnet around a conductor then currentis produced what is the cause of this current while the conductoris stationary? i know change of flux is cause but in first case when we moveconductor then we say this energy is given by hand but in secondcase conductor is stationary?

Explanation / Answer

I can see two reasons. 1. Electricity and magnetism are strongly related. Infact onecan't have a magnetic field without a moving electic charge. Amoving electric charge produces a magnetic field. 2. Motion is relative. Dah big deal one would say. Howeverconsider if that make any difference if you are moving a magnet ormoving a conductor that has 'free' electrons. Would that make anydifference? In first case a magnet is moving next to a conductor inthe second case electrons in the conductor are forced to move inthe magnetic field. So long as there is an angle between thepath of moving charges and the magnetic field one would influencethe other. A force on a moving charge q with a velosity v in amagnetic fied B is F=qv x B = qv B sin() - angle between the speed and magnetic field V also we can express induced magnetic field of a current I in awire r distance as B = (o/2) I/r Keep in mind that B in the first equation is not the B in thesecond equation. Let me know if it helps.
