Question
I am having difficulty with a question dealing with a stonethat "is thrown vertically downward from the top of a cliff." The given information- Height of cliff-200m durring last half-second of flight, stone travels 45 m The question asks, "what was the initial speed of thestone?" I can't figure out how to determine initial velocity withoutfirst determining final velocity; and I can't figure out how to getthe final velocity from the given information. Can someone please help? Well let's look at the last half second of flight d=45 m t=0.5 sec If we look at the equation df=di+vit+(1/2)at2 we can solve for vi 0=45 + vi(.5)+(1/2)(-9.8)(.5)2 .5vi=-43.775 vi=-87.55 m/s remember this is jus the speed at the beginning of the lasthalf second .5vi=-43.775 vi=-87.55 m/s remember this is jus the speed at the beginning of the lasthalf second from here we can find the final speed with vf=vi+at I think that you know how to handle it from hereRelated Questions
