Question

The question states that the diameter of the hydrogen atom is 1.06x 10^-10m and its Nucleus has a diameter of 2.40 x 10^-15m. The atom is how many times larger in volume than its nucleus?
Cramster's answer to this question is 8.06 x 10^13. However, I don't think that's correct since they didn'tdivide the diameter by 2 to get the radius. The answer Icalculated was 1.08 x 10^13 times larger. Could somebodyverify that for me? Thanks.

Explanation / Answer

diameter of the hydrogen atom is 1.06 x 10^-10m radius of the hydrogen atom is 1.06 x 10^-10m /2 = 0.53 * 10^-10m Volume of hydrogen atom V = (4/3)r^3                                             = ( 4/3 ) (0.53 * 10^-10m ) ^3 diameter of the nucieus atom is 2.4x 10^-15m radius of the nucleus is 2.4x 10^-15m / 2 =1.2* 10^-15m Volume of nucleus V' = (4/3)r^3                                             = ( 4/3 ) (1.2* 10^-15m) ^3 Volume of hydrogen atom ,V / Volume of nucleus ,V'= (4/3 ) (0.53 * 10^-10m ) ^3 / ( 4/3 ) (1.2*10^-15m) ^3                                                                                 = 8.06 x 10^13.
