Question
I was reading answer for #20 and saw something that I quite don'tunderstand. The answer states initial velocity for verticaldirection as 0 - if this was for final velocity, I wouldunderstand, but how can vertical initial velocity be zero? Romeodid throw the ball, and they did reach Juliet's window, and ballshave only gravity as acceleration which acts downward. Then theymust have some kind of vertical initial velocity which led them tocover distance of 4.5 meters. Then how can vertical initialvelocity be zero?Explanation / Answer
Given:Choose upward to be the positive y direction. The origin is the point fromwhich the pebbles are released. In the vertical direction, a =-9.8 m/s2, the velocity at the window isvy = 0 , andthe vertical displacement is 4.5m vy2 = vyo2 +2ay ( y - yo) I hope it helpsyou
