Genetic variation and effect of the environment on the genetic variation is the most important aspect which affects the selection of the traits. Diversity or variations are thus correlated to the natural selection in a way that they become more prone to selection.
So eggs, which has least variance will be changed by natural selection as it will not be favoured.
And body length because of having maximum variance will be selected more so it will remain there and not change for quite a few generations atleast and thus is most slowly affected.
