A loader is being used to load trucks to evacuate material off a construction site. The loader has a capacity of 1.5 cy. The loader cycle time is 1.5 min. The truck has a capacity of 10 cy. The hauling and returning distances are 7 km each. The effective grade on both directions is 5%. The weight of the empty vehicle is 60,000 lbs. The weight of the load is 70,000 lbs. The dumping time is 2 min. Sketch the total productivity of the fleet against different numbers of trucks, and determine the optimum number of trucks.Explanation / Answer
Here in the given question total capacity of truck is 10 CY(Container Yard) and the loader has the capacity of 1.5 CY and load it in 1.5 minut .Since 1.5 CY loaded by loader in 1.5 minut (As loader Cycle Time is given) so total time taken by loader to load the truck which has capacity of 10 CY will be 10 minut .
The total hauling and returning distance are 7 Km with effective grade 5% (this 5% will be helping to the truck while moving one side journy and will oppose the movement of the truck in the second side journy thus total effect of the gread will not be considered ) time taken by truck to complete this distance is 2 minut. here only time taken by tuck in dumping will be taken into consideration and the travelled distance will be taken into measure when we will calculate the cost, considering the fuel consumpted by truck.
(5% gread means there is 5 unit difference in altitude /elevation from the point of 100 unit latral distace of object )
Total weight of the empty truck is 60000 lbs and the weight of load is 70000lbs .the weight of loaded material which is equal to 70000 lbs is equivalent to the 10 CY .So any of these (Either in form of CY or in the form of lbs)will be considerd to calculate the total material that has to be evacuate from the site .
Now total time taken by the truck to one dumping is 12 minut and in one dumpng it wll deploy 10 CY or 70000lbs material from the site
If in one day workng hour is 8, the no of the dump by truck will be ((8*60/16)=40) 40 and in 40 no of the dump truck will deploy 10*40=400 CY or 70000*40=2800000lbs
NOTE-Let the total materiale that has to evacuate is X CY ,then no of truck required to evacuate this material in one day by working 8 hour only will be X/400
