The catchment is twice as long as it is wide and is approximately 100 ha in area. The CoGB requires the potential housing development to be developed in three stages of approximately equal areas. On your examination script you are required to draw the pre-development hydrograph for an ARI of 50 years. For a similar storm draw the expected hydrograph once full development has been attained and show how you how you prepared this composite hydrograph? Ans a) In order to draw hydrograph ,we require data such as time of rainfall and precipitation .Since its not given ,i am ignoring the first question.

Ans b)The main function of the detention basin is to hold the water still(or minimize the flow)for limited amount of time so that the settleable solids present in influent can settle easily and the output effluent is free of solids present initially.

Ans c)The following are the reasons-

1)To reduce total settleable solid contents from effluent.

2)To increase the effeciency of further treatment.

3)To remove heavy particles from influent before passing it through various other filtration or treatment basin.

4)To remove grease or oil from the influent otherwise which could obstruct the filtration process .

Ans d)Referrable dams can be defined as those dams whose failure impact assesment has to be done in order to determine its affect during failure on the livelihood of people surrounding it.
