Question
For a plate cam with a rolled follower without an offset, the pressure angle is computed for several choices of the radius of the prime circle (R0) and is shown in figure 1. For a plate cam with a rolled follower without an offset, the pressure angle is computed for several choices of the radius of the prime circle (R0) and is shown in figure 1.If the pressure angle should be limited as phi<20, then what is the most appropriate R0. For a plate cam with a roller follower without an offset, the pressure angle is computed for several choices of the radius of the prime circle (Ro) and is shown in Figure 1 If the pressure angle should be limited as
Explanation / Answer
If you observe the peaks of graphs, in order to satisfy less than 20 degree pressure angle, there are two options of radius of prime circle. One corresponds to 5cm and other one 6cm. But 6 cm radius is more appropriate as there is more margin to touch 20 degree pressure angle. The 5cm radius is just satisfying the condition by a very less margin which can cause jamming problems. To get clear idea see the peaks of the graphs and draw a horizontal line from 20 degree pressure angle and compare both the radius lying below it.
