Question
5. A dead battery of 10.0V has a internal resistance of 1.00 ohms and is connected in parallel with jumper cables to another car with a 12.0 V battery with internal resistance of 0.01 ohms. If the starter is in parallel with the batteries with an internal resistance of 0.06 ohms, find the current in the starter and the dead battery 6. In the circuit shown below, current flows through the 5.00 ohm resistor as shown, and this resistor is measured to be consuming energy at a rate of 35 W. Find (a) the current in ammeter, and (b) the unknown emf E(voltage). 5.00 2.00Explanation / Answer
Using KCL
(V - 12)/0.01 + (V-10)/1 + V/0.06 = 0
V/0.01 - 12/0.01 - V - 10 + V/0.06 = 0
V(1/0.1 - 1 + 1/0.06) = 10 + 12/0.01 = 1210
V = 1210/115.67 = 10.46 V
Current in the starter, I = 10.46/0.06 = 174.33 A
that in battery = (10.46 - 10)/1 = 0.46 A
Hence, I = 174.33 A and I' = 0.46 A
