Question
Internal Resistance, Terminal Voltage 4 3.0 V battery has an internal resistance r. The measured voltage (emt of the battery) is 3.0 V. When connected to a resistor R the terminal voltage is 2.9 V and the current is 0.16 A. What is the value of the extemal resistor R? Submit Answer Tries 0/ What is the intemal resistance r of the battery? Submit Anwer Tries 0f6 What is the energy dissipated in the battery in 1.3 min? Submit Anwer Tries 06 when a second identical battery is added in series and the external resistor is R = 14 what is the resulting current? Sitmit Answe Tries 06Explanation / Answer
V = IR => R = V/I
R = 2.9/0.16 = 18.13 Ohm
Hence, R = 18.13 Ohm
We know tat,
V = emf - Ir
2.9 = 3 - 0.16 r => r = 0.625 Ohm
Hence, r = 0.625 Ohm
energy dissipated is:
P = I^2 r
P = 0.16^2 x 0.625 = 0.016 W
P = E/T => E = PT
E = 0.016 x 78 s = 1.25 J
Hence, E = 1.25 J
R = 14 Ohm ; r = 2 x 0.625 = 1.25 r
Req = 14 + 1.25 = 15.25 Ohm
I = V/R = 2 x 2.9/15.25 = 0.38 A
Hence, I = 0.38 A
