Oscillatory motion is any kind of to and fro motion and it is periodic in nature i.e. it repeats itself in equal interval of time. But SHM is a special case of oscillatory motion.there are two conditions of shm : 1.The restoring force (or acceleration) is always directed toward the equilibrium position. 2.Its magnitude is directly proportional to displacement from equilibrium position.

Thus SHM is a simplest kind of oscillatory motion in which a body displaces from its stable equilibrium position and oscillate 'to and fro' about the equillibrium position when released.
